Background:
It is a well known fact that children today are the leaders
tomorrow. As such, how we want the future generation to live, study,
work and play is a factor of
the investment deployed on them today. A tool of the 21st Century
capable of
determining the capacities, resourcefulness, proficiencies and
competitiveness of
21st Century generations is the computer. The intrinsic attributes
of a computer
system like large storage capacity, speed, accuracy and error free
repetitiveness
makes it an indispensable tool for all ages and operations. For
education
purpose, this is no doubt an indispensable tool that should not only
be deployed
in tertiary institutions but more importantly at the foundation
levels – primary
and secondary schools.
It is with a mind to address this important need that ITAN is
refocusing on its earlier initiative – Computer In School Initiative
(OS-CISI), first launched in 2001 but now rebranded and relaunched
as Old Students Computer In School Initiative (OS-CISI). The idea of
mobilizing Old Students to be at the vanguard of this initiative is
the reality that has dawn on everyone that government alone cannot
do it all. Therefore, under the OS-CISI, partnership is solicited
across the entire spectrum of the Nigerian entity to include the
Federal Government, the State Governments, the Local Government,
Corporate organizations, Multinationals,NGOs, CEOs, well meaning
Nigerians who once experienced primary and secondary education and
would like to effect a difference for future generations.
This initiative is projected to be executed in three phases over a
period of 7 years (2008 – 2015) and it is to deliver more than
1,000,000 PCs (fairly used/brand new) during the period.
