HOW IT WORKS  (Implementation Strategy)

 


Description of PCs
The computers in view are brand new systems to be selected out the following
list of OS-CISI OEM PARTNERS brands.
OSCISI Partners brands are
1. OMATEK
2. ZINOX
3. BETA – SPEEDSTAR
4. BRIAN
 Minimum configuration
Intel Pentium III 500MHz or its AMD/Cyrix equivalent
- 256MB RAM
- 40GB RAM
- NIC
- CD ROM Drive
- 14” SVGA Monitor
- Standard keyboard & Mouse

Software
The OSCISI Software partner for this initiative is Mandriva Linux (ML). ML is an open source software that would deliver both the GUI Operating System, the Open Office Suite containing Office Writer (Word), Open Office Calc (Excel), Open Office Impress (Powerpoint),ETC. Embedded in the Mandriva Linux package are the subjects for primary and secondary school curriculum in tune with the Nigerian Education curriculum and in tune with Intel global Education program.
The embedded subjects include:
i. Mathematics,
ii. Biology
iii. Chemistry
iv. Astronomy
v. Geography etc

Minimum deployable PCs, Peripheral & Topology per school
Option1:
A minimum of five computers will be Star-networked with a brand new Laserjet printer. The equipment will in essence be made Internet ready but not necessarily connected to the Internet. It is hoped that the Galaxy Backbone Internet Infrastructure will extend to the schools as soon as it is deployed. At
least one 5kva Stabilizer and 5 650va UPSs shall also be part of the package.

Option2:
 In addition to Option 1 above, as many Notebooks with ML installed therein can be purchased for the schools.

Option3:
 In addition to option 2 above, multimedia projector/s for instructional purposes can be purchased as part of the package.

The operational scope of “OS-CISI”
The operational scope of the scheme shall be in three parts:

Part 1: Establishment of OS-CISI Office/Help Desk
A functional OS-CISI Office shall be established with a Co-ordinator who will be responsible to the President. The office shall be responsible for an online database on nominations, donors, schools and progress reports etc.
It shall be the link between all partners, the donors, the schools and other key elements of the ecosystem. The office shall also manage the Helpdesk which shall be functional between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday but online 24/7.

Part 2: Appointment of 3 OS-CISI OEM Partners (OOP) and 2 OSCISI
Retired PCs Re-engineering Partners (ORPRP) A competitive bidding process will be organized to identify companies with requisite capacities to handle the OS-CISI equipment orders for brand news systems and for the refurbishing of donated retired PCs.
So far, Messrs Omatek Computers Ltd & Zinox Technologies Ltd have been shortlisted as OS-CISI OEM Partners.
Qualified partners will have their relevant products advertised on the ITAN website – www.itan.org.ng
